How to play Flash
The official Flash Player no longer exists — and the archive plays anyway. Everything runs right in the browser, and the originals are yours to download and open in your own player.
What happened to Flash Player
Flash was created by Macromedia; in 2005 Adobe bought the company along with it — which is why the player old-timers remember as Macromedia Flash Player was later called Adobe Flash Player.
On 25 July 2017 Adobe announced that support would end at the close of 2020. Support ended on 31 December 2020, and on 12 January 2021 Adobe switched on a block inside the player itself: an installed Flash Player simply stopped playing content. The download links were removed from Adobe’s site, and the company recommends uninstalling the player.
Browsers left earlier or at the same time: Safari dropped Flash in the autumn of 2020, Chrome and Firefox in January 2021. The plugin that our old “Download Flash Player” page existed for is gone from every current browser.
So there are no “download the official player” buttons here any more. The programs we recommended in the 2000s — Macromedia Flash Player, Flash Movie Player, Swiff Player — either refuse to install today or require that very player which no longer exists. And the Flash Player builds floating around the web are blocked, unsafe software: there is no reason to install them.
The good news is that the .swf format itself never went away, and people have taught it to play without Adobe.

Rufflewe use this
A free Flash emulator written in Rust: it opens .swf files right in the browser, no plugins involved. It is what plays the cartoons on this site. There is also a desktop build for Windows, macOS and Linux. Classic animation (ActionScript 1 and 2) runs well; ActionScript 3 support is still being written.

Originals from our archive
Every piece here can be taken home. On the page of a cartoon, an episode or a game, under the player, there is a “Download the original” button — it serves the very .swf file its author built between 2000 and 2006: no re-encoding, no recompression, no watermarks. The file size is shown next to it.
That file will open in Ruffle, Newgrounds Player or any other program that speaks .swf. If you are building an archive of your own, this is the most reliable way: the format is not going anywhere, and emulators only keep getting better.
